Braxton Institute Reparations Work:
Multi-Level Engagement for Collective Healing

The Braxton Institute’s Reparations work addresses repair at every level of human experience—Individual, Local, Regional, and National—within a global context of justice and liberation. Rooted in ancestral wisdom, spiritual resilience, and a trauma-informed approach, our initiatives cultivate healing and restoration across generations and geographies. We honor this layered engagement with our commitment to cultivating joy, justice, and sustainability for all people impacted by systemic harm.

  • Individual – Creating Sanctuary
Creating intentional, supportive space and circles of care for individual healing, reflection, and spiritual resiliency, especially for those impacted by generational trauma and systems of oppression.

  • Local – Reparations for Lakeland Now!
Supporting community-led efforts for healing and repair in Lakeland, Maryland, including partnerships with the Lakeland Community Heritage Project and Restorative Justice processes with the City of College Park.

  • Regional – Advocacy for State Accountability
Participating in and supporting initiatives like the Maryland Lynching Truth and Reconciliation Commission and emerging county-based Reparations efforts to advance regional truth-telling, redress, and public reckoning.

  • National – Elevating Public Discourse
Through national convenings, public speaking, teaching, and facilitation, the Braxton Institute advances Reparations and Land Justice dialogues across diverse platforms and networks.
